The best thing to do is just tell him straight, if he can't take that, that's his problem.  Tell him that you feel it's a bit early on to be texting and calling so much, so could he call/text a maximum of x times a day.  Then wait for what he says to that, they follow up with your answer.

To be quite frank, if you can't discuss things like this, then it's not going to be good for the long term prospects of the relationship.
